About me
Matthew Szymanski is Executive Vice President of Green Bay Packaging Inc. (GBP). In this role, he oversees the company’s paper mills, woodlands operations, and corrugated packaging divisions.
Most recently, Szymanski has helped lead the $1 billion PowerPack Project, a bold, multi year modernization of Green Bay Packaging’s Arkansas Kraft paper mill in Morrilton, Arkansas. This transformative investment strengthens mill infrastructure, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, enhances operational efficiency, and positions the facility for long term sustainable growth.
Prior to his current role, Szymanski served as Vice President of Mill Operations, where he led the successful startup of GBP’s state of the art recycled paper mill in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the largest capital project in the company’s history. Under his leadership, the project was completed and launched successfully, establishing a new benchmark for operational excellence and sustainability within the industry.
Before being named Vice President of Mill Operations, Szymanski served as Vice President and General Manager of the Arkansas Kraft Division. He brings more than 30 years of experience in chemical and process engineering, technical sales, operations management, and general management.
Earlier in his career, Szymanski spent many years at Green Bay Packaging’s original 100% recycled, closed loop paper mill in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He served as General Manager of the facility before relocating to Arkansas to lead the Arkansas Kraft Division.
An active industry leader, Szymanski is involved with TAPPI and PIMA and was named a TAPPI Fellow in 2021, one of the paper industry’s highest professional honors.
Szymanski holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Master of Business Administration, both from institutions within the University of Wisconsin System.
